Junior and senior MLK Scholars traveled to Da Nang, Vietnam, over winter break with a focus on the relationship between the U.S. and Vietnam and community service. The scholars held an event April 21, which was part of a discussion series by the Center for the Study of Culture, Race and Ethnicity.

Theater arts department discusses diversity with students

The Department of Theatre Arts at Ithaca College has hosted several meetings to discuss issues regarding diversity within the department.
Roger Richardson, associate provost for diversity, inclusion and engagement, was announced by President Tom Rochon on Nov. 10 as the interim chief diversity officer. According to a recent announcement, it is unclear whether a permanent person will be hired for the position.

Ithaca College clarifies progress and holdups on diversity plan

In a recent announcement, the college laid out parts of the diversity action plan that are on track — such as developing a Fall 2016 campus-climate survey — and parts of the plan that are falling behind — such as developing a community review board for the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management.
Roger Richardson will no longer hold the interim chief diversity officer position at the college and will continue in his role as associate provost of diversity, inclusion and engagement.

Ithaca College likely to miss diversity action plan deadlines

In Fall 2015, Ithaca College set a timeline for addressing issues regarding diversity and campus climate. Although the plan covers a timeline of roughly 2 1/2 years, Roger Richardson, associate provost of diversity, inclusion and engagement and interim chief diversity officer, said it is not realistic for all deadlines to be made.
Ithaca College has announced its new open-housing policy — a housing option that enables students to select roommates regardless of their sex or gender. Freshmen Anna Gardner and Joe Simpson plan on utilizing the open-housing policy in the fall.
