Commentary: Opera is an exciting art form for all performers

Opera challenges its performers to constantly connect to the music and discover what each measure means to their character. Performers of many different skill sets are up for this challenge and could revitalize the opera industry. 
Senior Monica Ramich plays the maid, Laetitia, in “The Old Maid and the Thief.”  Italian-American composer Gian Carlo Menotti wrote the show in 1939 for radio.

Ithaca College takes on opera in “Semele”

Ithaca College's School of Music and MainStage Theatre will be presenting the first show of the semester, "Semele," a baroque opera by G.F. Handel.
Students in the Opera Workshop course rehearse for their first show on Nov. 19. A  semesterlong course, the performance will feature pieces from American composers.

Students to perform new American operas

Students in the Opera Workshop course will be putting on a show featuring American works from new American composers that have not yet been performed or recorded.
Zach James, general director of Opera Ithaca, and Megan Nielson play Bluebeard and Judith, respectively, in Opera Ithacas production of Bluebeards Castle. The show was Opera Ithacas first production and ran Oct. 18–19.

New professional group revives opera in Ithaca area

Fifteen years after the Ithaca Opera closed its doors, a new group, Opera Ithaca, is filling the opera void in the area.
Seniors Eric Flyte, Shelley Attadgie and junior Rachel Ozols play King Ouf, Laoula and Lazuli, respectively, in the Main Stage Theater production of Letoile. In the opera, Laoula and Lazuli are lovers.
