Ellen J Staurowsky, professor in the Department of Sports Media at Ithaca College is helping to change the sporting landscape worldwide through her advocacy work in Title IX, pay equity in sports and representation of women in sports media.

As Mark Twain once said, “It’s not about the size of the dog in the fight. It’s about the size of the fight in the dog.” That was the theme Nov. 13 as an undersized yet scrappy Ithaca College men’s basketball squad defended the Ben Light Gymnasium in their home opener against its rival, the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons.

Women’s basketball falls in nail-biting season opener to Red Dragons

It was a fierce battle on opening night, but the Ithaca College women’s basketball team came up just short against the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons on Nov. 14, dropping the match  65-60.

Football seeks revenge in 65th annual Cortaca Jug game

The Ithaca College football team will participate in the 65th edition of the Cortaca Jug, traveling to bitter rival and defending 2023 national champion Cortland State Nov. 16.
On July 29, the college’s athletics department announced the addition of women’s wrestling to the varsity sport agenda. The team will begin competition in the 2025–26 season and will mark the 14th women’s sport offered on campus.

This fall, Ithaca College became the first institution in the Liberty League to take the next step in expanding women’s sports.

Sophomore walk-on provides spark for men’s soccer team

Sophomore forward Jack Carney burst onto the scene this season for the Ithaca College men’s soccer team. The walk-on phenom led the charge offensively for the Bombers with five goals, which tied with junior forward Jared Krasnove for most on the team.

While many know about the Cortaca Jug between Ithaca College and Cortland football, the Cortaca Tub between the two college’s swimming and diving programs is another annual rivalry that made its return to the water Nov. 9.

Field hockey shuts down Thoroughbreds to advance to Liberty League Championship

In a win-or-go-home matchup, the No. 22 Ithaca College field hockey team chose the former. The Bombers hosted the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds, defeating them, 2-0, in the Liberty League semifinal game Nov. 8. The victory extends the Bombers’ winning streak to eight and improves their overall record to 14-5.

Wrestling takes home bronze at its annual Bomber Invitational

For the first time since the 2024 NCAA Division III Championships on March 15 and 16, the Ithaca College men’s wrestling team took to the mat at its 40th annual season-opening Bomber Invitational on Nov. 1-2. Out of the 11 teams at the meet, the team saw itself in fourth place after day one with 46 points and concluded day two and the invitational in third place with 151.5 points.

Women’s soccer takes regular season finale over Engineers

On a frigid and gray Saturday afternoon, the Ithaca College women’s soccer team took the field for its final regular season game against the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Engineers on Nov. 2. The Bombers consistently capitalized on gaps in the Engineers’ defense, securing a first-place finish in the Liberty League with a 3-0 win.

First half surge helps Tigers slip past Bombers

A pair of goals in the first half from junior forward Jake Donahue were all the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers needed to come away with the win over the Ithaca College men’s soccer team on Oct. 30. First-year midfielder Joshua Bourdoulous said the team’s ability to put themselves into position to score often was a bright side to the team’s performance.
