Nonstudent charged with trespassing

A nonstudent was arrested for criminal trespassing in Talcott Hall early Saturday morning, according to the Office of Public Safety.

Investigator Tom Dunn said Joel Young, 24, shoved two other students around 1:45 a.m. Saturday in Talcott Hall and was restricted from campus after the victims declined to press charges. Dunn said Young then returned to Talcott around 4:20 a.m. and was immediately arrested by Public Safety. He was issued an appearance ticket to Ithaca Town Court.

Young was also found to be in illegal possession of prescription drugs. Laura Durling, assistant director of Patrol and Security Services, said the drugs were sent to the State Police Lab for testing.

Durling said Public Safety is working with the district attorney’s office, and Young will face a minimal charge of misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance. That charge could be upgraded to a felony pending the results from the lab, Durling said.
