Men’s swimming and diving: Blue and Gold finish first of six teams

The men’s swimming and diving team continued its successful start to the season Sunday in Rochester, N.Y., finishing first in a field of six teams over three days to win the Don Richards Invitational.

The Bombers finished the meet — hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology — with a total of 933 points, 41 more than the second place finisher Hartwick College. The Bombers also beat out Alfred University, RIT, Le Moyne College and Nazareth College to win the meet.

Despite the high point total and large margin of victory, only two Bombers won individual events.

Freshman Taylor Van Cott won the 100-yard butterfly in 52.72 seconds, with senior Jeff Rapp finishing second in that event in 53.09 seconds.

Rapp won the 400-yard individual medley in 4:19.12. The Blue and Gold finished the meet with a bang, winning the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:12.31 with a team of junior Antoine Connors, sophomore Jake Robbins, freshman John Carr and sophomore Chris Cadwell.

The 400-yard medley relay team finished second to Hartwick with a time of 3:35.71.

The meet was the Bombers’ last of the calendar year. The Bombers next compete at noon on Jan. 15 at the Henry Kumpf Invitational in Troy, N.Y., hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, before returning home to face the University of Rochester on Jan. 22.
