Softball: Pitchers dominate in Alfred sweep

The Blue and Gold allowed only one run to cross the plate in a pair of victories at Empire 8 conference foe Alfred this afternoon. Game 1 resulted in a 6–0 shutout followed by a 4–1 win in Game 2.

Senior pitcher and third baseman Allison Greaney earned her third shutout of the year, throwing a complete game with three strikeouts while giving up only four hits.

Ithaca broke the game open with a three-run fifth inning, which was highlighted by a two-run single from sophomore outfielder Jenn Biondi. Biondi also scored three of the game’s six runs, one of which came off a single from the bat of senior designated hitter Kerry Barger.

Senior pitcher Britt Lillie started the second game for the South Hill squad and allowed only a first inning run. She closed out the game by retiring nine consecutive Alfred batters.

Greaney and freshman infielder Julianne Vincent had two hits each, while Biondi had three of her own along with a pair of RBIs.

The Bombers have now beat Alfred six times in a row dating back to last season, their last loss coming in Game 2 of a doubleheader at Kostrinsky Field exactly one year ago. They will face another conference opponent at 1 p.m. tomorrow when they visit Rochester Institute of Technology for a doubleheader.
