Women’s Track and Field: Dewart leads host of strong showings at Penn Relays

The women’s track and field team performed well again at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The four-day meet is one of the Bombers’ biggest meets of the year, and the team qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships in every event.

Senior Emma Dewart finished in first place in the heptathlon on Wednesday with a score of 5,006 points. She led the field after the first day of competition, winning and qualifying for the ECACs in the 100-meter hurdles, 200-meter dash, and high jump. On day two, Dewart won the long jump with a jump of ECAC-qualifying mark of 5.49 meters. She also won the 800-meter run and took second in the javelin.

Senior Ashley Dlubac finished 11th in the javelin followed by senior teammate Jessica Hoeffner in 17th place. Hoeffner also placed first in the hammer throw with a throw of 49.97 meters. Other notable field event finishes include junior Amanda Rissmeyer who finished in a three-way tie for 24th place after jumping 1.60 meters in the high jump.

Senior Heidi Baumbach placed 20th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:13.78). In addition, senior Molly Quinn clocked in at 18:14.19 in the 5K, giving her 27th place overall.

Finally, the shuttle hurdles team, comprised of freshman Christine Benway, junior Tammia Hubbard, Rissmeyer, and Dewart, ran a 61.95, giving them seventh place in the race.

The Bombers will next compete in the New York State Collegiate Track Conference Heptathlon Championships in Troy, N.Y. on April 29-30.
