Student files human rights discrimination complaint against IC

An Ithaca College student has filed a human rights discrimination complaint against the college.
Ethan Cepeda helped raise awareness for transgender rights at his high school by holding workshops to educate teachers. Cepeda also spoke out about the importance of gender neutral bathrooms and advocated for their implementation in the school.

Transgender and nonbinary individuals from Ithaca College and the  surrounding community shared their experiences in an open mic–style event in IC Square on Dec. 3.
One of these events was an Ithaca Virtual LGBTQ Local History Tour guided by Luca Maurer, director for the Center for LGBT Education, Outreach and Services. The tour features sites in Ithaca where LGBTQ history was made.

Ithaca College supports new pronoun holiday for community

International Pronouns Day, a new holiday founded in part by contributions from Ithaca College and recognized by Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick, will have its first observance Oct. 17.
The petition was created in response to several cases of alleged exclusion of LGBTQ and students of color from the Protestant community. It was delivered to President Shirley M. Collado in May with a request for the demands to be met by July 1.

IC Color is planning to protest for further change after the administration did not completely meet demands listed in the group’s petition.
An alum and former rower of Ithaca College has filed a Title IX lawsuit against the colleges athletic director, crew team coaches and the college. According to the lawsuit, the alum experienced discrimination because of his sexual orientation and a homophobic environment while on the team from 2012 to 2015.
