The men’s swimming and diving team closed out the 2010-11 regular season on a winning note Saturday, defeating Union College 180–120.
Junior Antoine Connors and sophomore Jake Lichter were the top individual performers for the Bombers. Connors won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:47.28 and the 50-yard freestyle in 22.17 seconds. Lichter swept the breaststroke events, winning the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:01.12 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:16.82.
Besides Connors and Lichter’s triumphs, the Blue and Gold also benefited from victories by freshman Connor White, who won the 100-yard backstroke in 54.08 seconds, freshman Taylor Van Cott, who won the 200-yard butterfly in 1:57.46, sophomore Jeff Robbins, who won the 100-yard freestyle in 48.17 seconds, junior Jeff Rapp, who won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:00.19 and junior Derek Rand, who took home the 3-meter diving title with a score of 304.80 points.
In addition to their success in individual events, the Bombers also continued their dominance in relay events, winning the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:14.28 with Connors, Robbins, sophomore Chris Cadwell and freshman John Carr and the 200-yard medley relay in 1:36.74 with Lichter, White, Van Cott and freshman Zack Kundel.
The South Hill squad, with the win, improved its final record for dual meets to 15–1. The Bombers next compete at the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association and Empire 8 Championships at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 23-26 hosted by Nazareth College in Webster, N.Y.
