A man died Sunday after jumping from a ledge at Taughannock Falls State Park, according to Trumansburg Fire Department officials.
Eileen Larrabe, spokeswoman for the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, said New York State Parks Police, New York State Police and Trumansburg firefighters arrived at the state park at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Trumansburg Fire Department Fire Chief Jason Fulton said when firefighters arrived on the scene they found a man pacing at the top of the falls.
“We were there and he seemed to be getting more and more distraught,” he said. “Then he just took a step off the edge of the falls,” he said.
At this time the identity of the man has not been released.
The investigation is continuing and has been turned over to the state park police, Fulton said.
