The field hockey team lost 3-0 to SUNY-Oneonta in a non-conference matchup Wednesday. The Bombers had the advantage in shots on goal over the Red Dragons but couldn’t find the back of the net. The team is now 3-5 this season.
Ithaca made many substitutions in an attempt to control game play but were not able to keep pace with the Red Dragons.
Senior forward Rachel Taylor scored Oneonta’s first goal off a corner play in the first half. Taylor then added the Red Dragons second goal less than a minute into the second half.
The third goal of the game for the Red Dragons was scored when Taylor passed to senior midfielder Ainsley Stroll.
It was the first time the Bombers have been shutout since they a 3-0 loss at SUNY-Cortland on September 1st.
Senior Katie Brown led the team with five shots. Ithaca also had the advantage in penalty corners 8-5.
Sophomore goalie Samantha Grassi earned her first career start. Grassi had two saves and allowed three goals. Oneonta’s senior goalie Leslie Dauphinais and freshman goalie Kellie Brocco combined for six saves.
The Bombers will look to pick up their first Empire 8 conference win this season when they return to the field Saturday against Utica College at 1p.m.
