How can Hillary be brought down if she runs for President in 2016? Rand Paul seems to think that her past is the way to go. Or rather, her husband’s past. A few days ago, Paul reiterated his old claim that Bill Clinton is a, “sexual predator,” and that Hillary shouldn’t use money raised through Bill to fund her campaign, especially when she’s taking a position on women’s rights.
“If they want to take position on women’s rights, by all means do. But you can’t do it and take it from a guy who was using his position of authority to take advantage of young women in the workplace,” said Paul.
With interesting timing, the Washington Free Beacon published what FOX News First is calling a “time bomb” – memos written by Diane Blair, a woman who Clinton described as her, “closest friend,” in which Blair had documented her conversations with Clinton, including her reactions to the Lewinsky-“I -did-not-have-sexual-relations-with-that-woman,” scandal.
The memos show that Hillary attributed the incident to personal reasons, including the deaths of Bill’s mother, her own father, and a close friend. She noted, “It was a lapse, but she says to his credit he tried to break it off, tried to pull away, tried to manage someone who was clearly a ‘narcissistic loony-toon’; but it was beyond control.”
So is this actually going to hit Hillary where it hurts and ruin her chances of becoming President? I don’t think so. It was her husband, not Hillary, who had an incident and even then, he held an approval rating of 58%. Now, I think that most of the nation has moved beyond this entire scandal. In 2012, a Gallup poll found Bill to be at his most popular – 66% of Americans viewed him favorably. 63% of women had a favorable view towards him, which seems to deem Paul’s argument moot.
As for those who argue that Hillary is weak because she stayed with Bill? I would argue that it takes a tremendous amount of strength to forgive something like this. In the Blair papers, Hillary noted that not many people in Washington have a pain threshold, something that she and Bill did possess. Blair wrote, “She sounded very up, almost jolly,” Blair wrote about Clinton. “Told me how she and Bill and Chelsea had been to church, to a Chinese restaurant, to a Shakespeare play, greeted everywhere with wild applause and cheers—this, she said is what drives their adversaries totally nuts, that they don’t bend, do not appear to be suffering.”
My opinion? More power to you, Hillary. I do hope she puts her name in for a presidential bid in 2016. I think that if this is some of the worst the Republicans can throw at her, she stands quite a good chance of being the 45th President of the United States.
