It’s about that time again for another installment of Beltress Blast From The Past. In our last edition, we took a look at a little girl with a big voice in a musical about vampires (no, it’s not Twilight). This time, let’s cast our eyes on Patti LuPone.
LuPone, known for her brassy vocals and even brassier personality, just played the coveted role of the chain smoking, cynical Joanne in a semi-staged production of “Company,” one of Stephen Sondheim’s most prized musicals. She shared the stage with a plethora of seasoned actors and performers, including Neil Patrick Harris, Martha Plimpton, Anika Noni Rose and Stephen Colbert.
This gem of a clip shows Seth Rudetsky “deconstructing” LuPone’s 1979 performance as Argentinean First Lady Eva Perón in “Evita,” the musical that spearheaded much of her star-studded career.
