The men’s basketball team (1—4) tallied its first victory of the season yesterday in the consolation game of the Radisson Carnegie Mellon Invitational in Pittsburgh, Pa. with a 70-60 win against Otterbein University. The Bombers were playing in the consolation game because of a 91-78 loss against Lebanon Valley on the opening day of the tournament.

The Blue and Gold led their game against Lebanon Valley at halftime 44-40, but a second half surge by the Dutchmen – who shot nearly 58 percent from the field – led to the Bombers being outscored by 17 in the final half.

Sophomore forward and center Frank Mitchell led the South Hill squad with a career-high 27 points and added 10 rebounds to snare his first career double-double. Junior guard Sean Rossi scored 10 points and contributed 12 assists for his first double-double of the season, while junior forward Andrei Oztemel also had 20 points for the Blue and Gold.

The Bombers finally entered the win column following their takedown of Otterbein on the second day of the tournament. It was a game that saw the Bombers trail by 10 points three separate times, but they had a 15-0 run that spanned from the end of the first half to the beginning of the second half and held the lead for the remainder of the game.

Junior center Sinjin Wightman garnered a career-high 18 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Oztemel added 16 points, while senior guard Jordan Marcus had 13.

Mitchell was named to the all-tournament team for his efforts. While he scored only six points in the victory, he was a force in the defensive zone, blocking three shots.

The Bombers return to action at 8 p.m. tomorrow against rival SUNY-Cortland in Ben Light Gymnasium.
