The fourth-ranked wrestling team started its Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference season last night with a 31-10 win against Rochester Institute of Technology.
The South Hill squad won all but three of its matches, with freshmen Alex Gomez and Kevin Collins each recording pins over their opponents. Gomez pinned RIT freshman Jake Harvey 2:32 into his match, and Collins pinned RIT senior Adam Hugunine five minutes into his match to put the Bombers up 16-4.
After RIT senior Sean Sercu won his bout against junior Jason Fraser and freshman Grant Dickey won by medical forfeit, junior Jules Doliscar was tested by RIT junior Tyler Brent in his match. Brant got out to an early 2-0 lead before Doliscar rallied and defeated him 6-4.
Senior Tom Heckman’s second stall late in the third period of his match against RIT sophomore Dave Sickler forced overtime, but Heckman was able to pull out a 6-5 win.
The Bombers improve to 5–0 overall and will host SUNY-Oswego at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in Ben Light Gymnasium.
