The wrestling team finished fourth in the National Wrestling Coaching Association National Duals in Springfield, Ill. over the weekend.
The South Hill squad entered the Cliff Keen National Duals as the third seed overall and fell to no. 2 Augsburg College on Sunday before losing the third-place meet to fourth-seeded University of Wisconsin La Crosse by a score of 21-13.
The Blue and Gold began the tournament with a narrow 19-18 defeat of University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the first round Saturday. While the Bombers lost the last three bouts in those matches, they did not concede any bonus points which proved to be the difference. They then recorded a 26-13 win against ninth-seeded Elmhurst College in the quarterfinals.
Junior Jules Doliscar was named the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler. He won four matches including a 4-1 triumph against Wisconsin La Crosse senior Mike Schmitz, the nation’s top wrestler in 174-pound weight class.
The South Hill squad will return to action Saturday with a meet at Waynesburg University.
