Women’s Indoor Track: Blue and Gold capture eighth conference crown

The women’s indoor track team dominated at yesterday’s Empire 8 Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Glazer Arena, scoring 253 points more than the other five teams combined and win its fifth straight title. The Bombers have now won eight of the nine contested championships in conference history.

The Bombers won eight of the meet’s 15 events and tallied 22 All Empire 8 selections during the victory.

Senior Emma Dewart set Empire 8 Conference records in the 60-meter hurdle, the high jump and the long jump while also qualifying for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships in each event. Dewart won the 60-meter hurdles in 9:03, the long jump with a 5.70 meter performance and the high jump with a 1.68 meter clear. She was named Empire 8 Women’s Field Athlete of the Meet.

Junior Amanda Rissmeyer placed second in the high jump with a clear of 1.63 meters, also qualifying for ECACs.

The Blue and Gold also had a one-two punch in the 800-meter and mile runs. Junior Jenn Randall won the 800 in an ECAC qualifying time of 2:22.30 and freshman Hannah Wright finished as runner up in 2:27.47.

Senior Molly Quinn clocked a 19:14:17 first place finish in the 5,000-meter, run while senior Julie Orlando cleared an ECAC qualifying height of 3.35 meters in the pole vault to win the event.

The South Hill squad clocked first place finishes in both championships relays, winning the distance medley relay in 12.57.60 and the 4×400 in come-from-behind fashion with finishing time of 4:13.87.

Ithaca will host the Bomber Invitational on Saturday in Glazer Arena.
