Editorial: Quick response

A somber mood overtook the Ithaca College campus last year after Victoria Cheng and Gregory Mantone’s deaths. In response to students’ mixed emotions in coping with the news, the college’s Mental Health Response Team quickly set up areas on campus to speak with students about available counseling services amidst a difficult time.

This year, the MHRT added nine new staff and faculty members to become part of the team. The decision is a commendable example of a preventative measure that could potentially help the student body when they are most in need of support.

The MHRT recognized the impact its services had on students last year, then further strengthened its efforts. The decision should be praised, and students should not hesitate to reach out to the MHRT in the wake of a tumultuous event.
