Men’s Swimming and Diving: Squad makes history with record times in events at state and conference championships

The men’s swimming and diving team repeated as Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Empire 8 Conference champions yesterday at the Webster Aquatic Center in Webster, N.Y. The Bombers finished 187 points ahead of second place Stevens Institute of Technology at the meet.

Senior Jeff Rapp set a school record in the 200-yard backstroke while finishing in second place. He was also a member of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that set a new program record time of 3:05.40 along with senior Antoine Connors, junior Jake Robbins, and junior Chris Cadwell.

Junior Jake Lichter swam the second fastest time in Bomber histoy and finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke. Sophomore Cheffy Thomas placed eighth in the event.

Three members of the South Hill squad made the finals in the 100-yard freestyle — Connors finished in third, Robbins finished right behind and sophomore John Carr finished in eighth.

The Bombers are awaiting selections for the NCAA Division III Championships, which will take place March 21-24 at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis.
