The baseball team lost its season-opener, falling to the SUNY-Old Westbury Panthers yesterday in Yaphank, N.Y. by a score of 3–2. The Panthers scored two seventh inning runs and held off a late Bomber rally to get the victory.
Senior pitcher Tucker Healy started on the mound for the Bombers, throwing 6 1/3 innings while surrendering four hits and three earned runs. Freshman Jimmy Wagner came in relief, pitching 1 2/3 innings of one-hit baseball.
Panthers Junior pitcher Tim Walsh threw the game’s first seven innings, allowing just two runs. Junior Stephen Chapter pitched the final two innings for Old Westbury and held the Bombers scoreless.
Junior left fielder Andrew Turner picked up two of the South Hill Squad’s five hits and also added an RBI.
The Blue and Gold finish their weekend with games today and tomorrow in Yaphank, N.Y.
