A Cornell University senior is facing charges from the Ithaca Police Department for an alleged armed break-in Wednesday.
Cornell University senior Warner Phipps, who is also a member of the Cornell Wrestling Team, was charged with burglary in the 2nd degree, menacing in the 2nd degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree Saturday, according to an Ithaca Police Department press release.
According the release, Phipps is alleged to have entered a friend’s apartment Wednesday with a gun, looking for the friend’s roommate who was hiding in another part of the complex at the time. There were no injuries and the defendant eventually left.
The IPD was not notified until Saturday afternoon, at which time the defendant was arrested while exiting his residence Saturday evening. Police recovered a long gun that is believed to have been used in the crime.
Phipps was arraigned this morning in Ithaca City Court.
