Despite being away from Kostrinsky Field, the softball team has felt right at home by winning their sixth consecutive road game and eight consecutive game overall.

With victories of 7-1 and 5-1 over Nazareth College, the Blue and Gold improved their record to 15—10 with 14 games remaining in the season.

Sophomore pitcher Sam Bender was near perfect on the circle against Nazareth, a team that had won five of its last six games. In game one, Bender gave up only one run on three hits with seven strikeouts in her sixth win of the season in. Bender left after the fifth as sophomore pitcher Jillian Olmstead pitched two scoreless innings to shut the door on the Golden Flyers.

The Bombers’ explosive offense was able to score first and never look back, as the batters combined for eight extra base hits in the game. Sophomore first baseman Sydney Folk advanced her hitting streak to six games with a two-run home run in the first inning. Folk finished 2-for-4 in the game and crossed the plate again in the fourth inning.

In the second game of the series, Nazareth took the first lead of the game in the third inning on freshman first baseman Nicole Bayona’s RBI double off Bender. Olmstead then took the ball and again closed the game out pitching four scoreless innings to pick up her ninth win of the season.

The Blue and Gold got their offense in gear in the fourth inning, tying the game when designated player Jen Biondi scored on a wild pitch. In the sixth inning, Folk homered again giving her five on the year. She leads all Bombers with a .397 batting average. The Bombers added three more runs for insurance to come out with the sweep.

The South Hill squad will put their winning streak to the test at 3 p.m. Tuesday at SUNY-Oneonta.
