The Ithaca Police Department has arrested a man who shot a police officer around 11 p.m. Thursday near the West Village apartment complex on West Hill.
The suspect was apprehended around 4:50 a.m. by the Ithaca SWAT Team, according to a press release.
Officer Anthony Augustine, a veteran of 5 years at the IPD, was in surgery for his injuries as of 5:15 a.m.
Augustine was described as “conscious and alert” and was being transported to a trauma center at the time the press release was published.
In a press release issued Friday morning, Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick said the officer was attempting to stop a stolen vehicle when a short foot chase ensued. Augustine was shot when he approached the suspect.
No update on his condition is known at this time.
