Wegmans recalled its Organic Spring Mix and Organic Spinach earlier today as a precautionary measure, because some mixes may be contaminated with E. coli bacteria.
Wegmans declined to comment but said on its website that the recall covers 5-ounce and 11-ounce packages of its Organic Spinach and Spring Mix salads, sold between Oct. 14 and Thursday.
According to a Wegmans press release, about 31,000 lbs. of Wegmans Organic Spinach and Spring Mix was recalled in stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland and Massachusetts.
The press release said there have been 16 reported illnesses in New York state from this particular strain of E. coli.
Customers who have experienced any symptoms, such as diarrhea or abdominal cramps after consuming the product, should contact their healthcare provider.
Wegmans is asking customers who bought the products to discard them at home and visit a store service desk for a full refund.
Questions should be directed to the Wegmans consumer affairs department at (800) 934-6267 Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern time.
