Last night, Justin Bieber performed during the half-time show of the 100th Grey Cup in Toronto, Canada. Maybe it was because he wasn’t performing to his usual crowd of preteen girls, but when Beiber asked the crowd to make some noise, he got something he wasn’t expecting.
Boos.
Outwardly, Bieber didn’t react, but he had to have noticed the poor response from the audience — especially when Lightfoot, a Canadian singer-songwriter, drove the crowd wild. Even Bieber’s protégé, Carly Rae Jepsen, received more applause.
This isn’t the first time the star has received Canadian criticism. Last week, Bieber received a Diamond Jubilee Medal from Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper wearing a white t-shirt, a backwards baseball cap and overalls. Many found this to be offensive and took to Twitter to voice their outrage. Others were quick to point out that when he performed for President Obama at the White House last year, he wore a white tuxedo.
As far as other televised appearances go, Bieber was booed during a 2011 Knicks game. He was also booed on an episode of “Conan” — one where he wasn’t even present.
Is it the sign of the end of Bieber Fever? It’s too soon to know for certain, but it definitely looks like not everyone wants this pop star as their “Boyfriend.”
