The Ithaca College women’s basketball team closed out their regular season with a win against Houghton College 74–48 Feb. 16. This win completed an undefeated season at home for the Bombers.

While their field goal percentage of 30.6 percent was less than Houghton’s 35.7 percent, the Bombers were able to force 14 turnovers, including seven steals, in the first half of play. Bench play was also crucial in the first half, as the Bomber’s bench out scored Houghton’s 15–2. After leading for the majority of the first half, they took a 31–24 lead into halftime.

The second half saw a huge turnaround in shooting for the South Hill squad. The Bombers shot 48.5 percent from the field while knocking down all nine free throw attempts they earned. On the other end of the floor, they held Houghton to 25.9 percent shooting and forced 13 more turnovers in route to the 26 point victory. The Bomber’s bench outscored Houghton by a staggering 41–3.

Sophomore guard Allie Tunick, who finished with 10 points and three 3-pointers, said that the half time break let the Bombers get their heads back in the game.

“In the first half we were having trouble converting steals, and we just weren’t hitting shots,” Tunick said. “At halftime, we all just talked and said, ‘we got this.’ We went out in the third, the third quarter is usually our best quarter, and we got it done.”

With this win, the Bombers extend their winning streak to 11 games and will take that streak into the Empire 8 championships. However, head coach Dan Raymond said he isn’t counting on momentum.

“Now we have a week off, so I’m not really worried about the whole momentum thing,” Raymond said. “There’s things we have to clean up; We have to play more consistently, so those are the things we’re going to focus on.”
