The Ithaca College baseball team went 1–2 Feb. 25–26 to open its season, with a win over SUNY Brockport and two losses to Virginia Wesleyan. The team started the weekend with a big 9-0 win over Brockport.

Against Brockport, the Bombers got on the board first with sophomore Jake Generali’s grounder, scoring senior Ryan Henchey and sophomore Sam Little. The team would pile it on the rest of the game when right fielder Little took Brockport junior pitcher Brendan Heywood deep to make it an 8-0 ballgame. The Bombers would cross the plate for the last time in this game when senior shortstop Trevor Thompson hit a single to left field, with senior Josh Savacool crossing the plate.

In the second game, the Bombers lost 5-4 to Virginia Wesleyan. The Marlins got on the board first, in the first inning when junior Randy Neisz doubled to left field scoring seniors Taylor Erby and Justin Erby. The South Hill squad would be down 3–0 before battling back to tie the game at 3–3 when  Little brought home Thompson and sophomore Webb Little. The next batter Henchey brought home Sam Little.

In the ninth inning, freshman Jordy Ellis tied the game up for the Marlins and then Taylor Erby scored with an RBI single.

The Bombers played the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins again Feb. 26 and fell by a score of 12–9. The Blue and Gold started with a 1-0 lead in the second inning when sophomore Garrett Snyder singled home Henchey. The Bombers would tie the game at 2–2 in the third inning when Savacool ran home and scored on a wild pitch. The game was all Marlins after that, however, when the Marlins ran up the score 9–2 in the third inning.

In the seventh inning the Bombers battled back, making it a one run game when Henchey reached on an error by the third baseman, allowing sophomore Andrew Bailey to score.

The Bombers are back in action against St. Joseph’s College – Long Island at 11 a.m. March 4 in Patchogue, New York.
