Too Many Cooks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrGrOK8oZG8
By now you’ve probably heard all about the viral video Too Many Cooks that has been sweeping the nation. For those of you that haven’t it’s a 11 and a half minute 80’s style video that is essentially just an opening credits sequence to a sitcom.
Now of course this video has its fair share of twists to keep it interesting, but I can assure you this video has little to no actual story. If you are still looking for a way to watch this video it is available on Youtube as well as Adult Swim every night at midnight. That’s right every single midnight, Adult Swim airs this video that imdb classifies as a TV Movie. It is definitely something worth watching, but I couldn’t tell you why.
The video has the perfect mix of parody and originality that keeps it interesting for almost the entire 11 and a half minutes. The 80’s sitcom feel gives some sense of nostalgia and familiarity helping sell us on the parody, and certain camera angles/Special effects really make this video pop.

This video has gone so viral that there are buzzfeed quizes and intense professional case studies on the meaning of this movie. It is crazy to me what gets so popular in this world. My only question is if this is the future of TV. A video like this is usually prime real estate for Youtube or other internet videos services, but it seems that Adult Swim is using this TV Movie as a way to test the market, and see if maybe shorter, finalized videos are the better route to go in.
I can’t see TV getting this sporadic and short in the future, but it certainly is interesting to see the internet and TV fronts starting to merge.
