In a March 26 Intercom post, Ernie McClatchie, associate vice president in the Office of Facilities, announced that construction for the Terrace Elevator Connection Project will begin April 1. The project is a part of the college’s master plan and aims to install an accessible elevator that will connect the Terraces Dining Hall to Terrace 1.
The elevator will have six stops and will be supplemented with a new entry point into the Terraces dining hall that does not involve accessing the stairs that lead down to the actual dining level. Construction will also involve the installation of two all-gender bathrooms and an interior connector that will connect the Balker Walkway to the Terraces Dining Hall and the Terraces Bridge Level.
The project is expected to be completed by mid-August, according to the Intercom post.
“With the priority of causing the least amount of disruption to campus operations, the project will begin before the end of the spring semester so that substantial completion can be met by mid-August and allow for the Terrace Dining Hall to be open for the start of the new academic year,” McClatchie said in the Intercom post.
When construction begins, the staircase closest to the loading dock right outside the Terraces dining hall will be closed, meaning that the mail package lockers inside that space will be inaccessible. According to the Intercom post, Terraces residents will relieve their packages in the Towers mailroom.
Parking will also be impacted because of the construction.
“The ADA-accessible spaces on the Northwest end of J-Lot will remain available and access to Baker Walkway will also remain open for the remainder of the spring semester,” the McClatchie said. “T-Lot will be taken offline for parking to allow deliveries for the dining hall to take place due to the normal loading dock being closed. Additional parking is available in Upper J-Lot and W-Lot.”
