On Feb. 26, U.S. District Judge Elizabeth Coombe, ordered the council involved in the Title IX court case against Ithaca College and Bryan Roberts, former associate dean of the Roy H. Park School of Communications, to file a status report or stipulation of dismissal by April 11. The stipulation of dismissal would result in a written agreement by all parties involved to officially close the case. However, if all parties cannot agree to a dismissal, the case will remain active.
This decision was made following the Feb. 24 mandatory mediation session for the case. This session was required for both parties involved in the case to attend. After six hours, a mediator — a neutral third party in the case — helped the parties negotiate and come to a mutual decision to settle the case and submit it for court consideration. After the settlement, the case returned to the court which then led to receiving permission from Coombe to close the case.
In November 2023, a civil lawsuit against Roberts and the college was filed by a now-graduated IC student alleging that he was sexually harassed and abused by four then-employees of the college. In September 2024, the college found evidence to believe that Roberts did violate the college’s intimate relationship and sexual harassment policy.
