On Oct. 16, New York state Senator Lea Webb presented $250,000 in state funding for the Hangar Theatre Company.
The funding comes from the Community Resiliency, Economic Sustainability and Technology, or CREST program which assists in improving infrastructure.
“This investment reflects our commitment to strengthening the institutions that make our communities so special,” Webb said in the press release. “The Hangar Theatre is a treasure in our region, and I’m committed to supporting its role as a hub for creativity, education, and connection.”
In the press release, Shirley Serotsky, the producing artistic director of the Hangar Theatre, said the Hangar Theatre Company is currently celebrating its 50th season of bringing theater performances and arts education to the Tompkins County community.
The funds will go towards renovations, including the installation of a new HVAC system, parking lot repavement and a new tent for KIDDSTUFF, the theater’s performance series aimed at young children.
“The capital improvements funded by the CREST grant will help us take much-needed steps towards making both the indoor and outdoor spaces more comfortable, accessible, and beautiful,” Serotsky said in the press release.
