In the best news all week, Nicholas Ghesquiere has finally been named creative director of Louis Vuitton! He’s the latest in a new regime of young designers taking over storied houses (Scott at Moschino, Wang at Balenciaga, Simons at Dior, Slimane at Saint Laurent, etc…) Personally, I’ve been mourning Ghesquiere’s departure from Balenciaga, where he was truly one of the stylistic geniuses of the industry and his generation – although I loved A. Wang’s minimalistic first collection for them, it just wasn’t the same as Ghesquiere’s insanely conceptual collections. Marc Jacobs departure at Louis Vuitton was timely – he’s had a good run, he produces good work, but I’m excited for a french designer to once again take the reins at this storied house. Here’s to hoping that Ghesquiere injects some new joie de vivre into Louis Vuitton!
