It only makes sense that Matthew Dear is signed to the record label Ghostly International. His creepy and sepulchral house beats seem to meld the rhythms of the ancient world with the steely edge of modernity. If anything, I guess the appropriate descriptor would be musical steampunk.
Ever the workaholic, Dear couldn’t wait to give his fans a taste of his latest creations. To keep listeners on their toes, he dropped a new EP, Headcage. The EP’s lead off track, and namesake, pulses with a mechanical precision as Dear’s voice contorts every which way. As with most of his repertoire, “Headcage” is a nocturnal treasure that can leave listeners looking over their shoulders.
