We knew this day would come eventually. This week, Aussie rockers Jet announced their termination as a musical entity. The group had been producing some unabashedly shallow—and catchy—tracks since 2001, but even the greatest bands finally call it a day. Jet had been laying low since the release of their 2009 album, Shaka Rock.
While they didn’t have the deepest lyrics out there, I think all of us have a special place for a little Jet guilty pleasure. It’s going to be a little tough to live without Nic Cester’s forceful shrieking over blaring guitars, but I’m sure we’ll manage somehow. In the meantime, we’re going to need to find a new soundtrack to back our advertisements for cruise lines and popcorn shrimp. Did we ever find out if that chick was going to be their girl? Mysteries of the universe, man.
Rest in peace, Jet. Life is indeed a “Cold Hard Bitch.”
