In the midst of a four-game losing streak, the Bombers traveled to SUNY-Oneonta (14—18 overall, 7—8 SUNYAC) yesterday where they defeated the Red Dragons 6–4. The win improved the South Hill squad’s record to 19–8–1 overall.
The Blue and Gold jumped out to an early 5–0 lead in the top of the first inning by capitalizing on three Red Dragon errors, a wild pitch and a walk. Oneonta had five errors total on the day. The Bombers tacked on one more run in the fourth inning.
Sophomore right fielder Luke Stark led the offense with three hits and two RBI on the day. Sophomore shortstop Tim LoCastro returned to the lineup after missing eight games and recorded two hits, extending his hitting streak to 20 games.
Freshman pitcher Andrew Sanders started for the Bombers and held the Red Dragons scoreless outside of a three-run second inning. Junior pitcher Pat Lemmo and senior pitcher Tucker Healy combined to close out the final four innings.
The Bombers return to Freeman Field at 1 p.m. Saturday with a doubleheader against Empire 8 Conference foe Stevens Institute of Technology.
