Yes, I just invented that last word.
The CW just announced that they have a Wonder Woman project in development. This. Is. Huge.
For those that haven’t heard, The CW is premiering “Arrow,” which follows DC’s superhero Green Arrow as he protects Star City. At first, I thought this was The CW’s “Smallville” replacement, but with the announcement of “Wonder Woman,” it’s about to get cray.
Comic critics have been pretty hard on DC lately. “The Avengers” was a box office smash and Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy just ended – and if you’ve been paying attention to the Justice League movie rumors, you can tell that DC is grasping for straws.
But The CW just changed everything. Marvel continues to dominate the silver screen, though Joss Whedon has already started preparing a TV show for ABC based on S.H.I.E.L.D. for fall 2013. I won’t lie about this one — I’m expecting total Marvel awesomeness from Whedon.
But if The CW has “Wonder Woman” and “Arrow,” The CW could singlehandedly boost DC’s media cred. Of course, this could end up being another NBC-esque attempt, but who knows?
Either way, this is one project worth following this year.
