For the first time since 2003, NBC won the first week of the broadcast season.
This is great news for the network, which is slowly overcoming its “punchline status” among industry insiders. With highly publicized debacles like “Heroes,” “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” and “The Playboy Club,” many wondered if NBC would ever recover.
But with the hit show “The Voice” leading the way, NBC is regaining its stride. As a result of decent ratings for freshmen comedies “Go On” and “The New Normal,” the network has order full seasons of both shows.
Surprisingly strong ratings for new drama “Revolution” have also led to a full season order. While this is great news for sci-fi fans, it’s hard to forget how other attempts at high-concept dramas (like “Heroes” and “The Cape”) turned out.
I’m an optimist, so I do have hope for NBC. But I also know that there are 30ish weeks to go in the TV season, so anything could happen.
