Joseph Quandt, Cornell University sophomore, was found dead at his residence Wednesday night. At this time, police are ruling out foul play and suicide. The investigation is ongoing.

Quandt was found dead at his residence, the Watermargin Cooperative, by housemates who then made a 911 call at about 8:19 p.m. The Ithaca Police Department and Cornell University Police responded to Watermargin, located at 103 McGraw Pl. on Cornell’s West Campus, David Honan, deputy chief of cornell police, said.

“As of right now there’s no evidence to indicate there was foul play or suicide involved,” Honan said. “We are investigating some facts related to the actual causes.”

The university’s student newspaper, The Cornell Daily Sun, reported that Quandt’s dean, Kent Kleinman, notified the student body of the College of Architecture, Art and Planning of the loss.

“It is with a heavy heart that I write to you about another tragic loss to the AAP community,” Kleinman said, adding that Quandt’s family had been notified of his death. “This has been a difficult time for all of us in the college, and I send my deep sympathies and thoughts to [Quandt’s] many friends across the college.”
