Ithaca College shut off natural gas services in the Circles Apartments Community Center Nov. 13 morning following vandalism that occurred overnight.

In an email sent to Circles Apartments residents around 8 a.m. Nov. 13, the Office of Residential Life said New York State Electric & Gas would travel to campus by 9 a.m. to start repairs. The email said the community center would not have heat or hot water until the repairs were completed.

The email said the washers in the center would still work, as they heat the water on their own. However, the dryers rely on the natural gas connection and would not work until the repair was completed.

The community center currently houses the Coddington Road Community Center childcare program. Thomas Dunn, associate director and deputy chief for the Office of Public Safety, said the children who attend the daycare were relocated to Emerson Suites in the Campus Center.

The Office of Residential Life sent another email around 2:30 p.m. to notify Circles Apartments residents that the repairs had been completed and heat, hot water and dryers were working again.

Dunn said Public Safety is still investigating the vandalism and he could not specify details.
