IC-Longview partnership engages non-traditional audiences with improved speaker series

The Gerontology Institute at Ithaca College and Longview Senior Living Community have been participating in an ongoing partnership since 1999. A part of this 25-year partnership includes a speaker series that involves the college’s community volunteering their time to give presentations — ranging anywhere from traditional lectures to musical performances — to Longview residents. 
Jerry Mirskin, a retired Ithaca College professor, leads a creative non-fiction writing workshop for students and residents at Longview which will run until May 3.

Retired IC professor teaches writing workshop at Longview

Jerry Mirskin, a retired Ithaca College professor, has been teaching the creative nonfiction writing workshop to the residents every Tuesday since March 15.
Longview, a senior living community located across the street from campus on Bella Vista Dr., has maintained a relationship with the college for over 20 years.

Ithaca College and community prepare for the first total solar eclipse in Central New York since 1925

Members of Ithaca College and greater Ithaca communities are turning their attention to the sky as they prepare for a total solar eclipse that will pass through Central New York on April 8. The last total solar eclipse in Central New York was in 1925.
The clinic provides pro bono care, meaning they do not bill their patients, and the operational costs of the clinic are funded through the HSHP dean’s office. Kayleigh Plumeau, associate director of clinical education in the Department of Physical Therapy, said the free services grant them the opportunity to serve those who might not otherwise have access to care.
