It’s September everyone! And of course that means it is back to school for a lot of people, grammar school through college. But no one is starting quite as new as the alternative charter school in Ithaca: New Roots Charter School. Located in downtown Ithaca, New Roots opened its doors just last year in the historical Clinton House on North Cayuga Street. The school has spent the last year providing lucky students with a one of a kind education, focusing on creative, active and critical learning and empowering them to create future communities that are socially, economically and ecologically sustainable.
This past year seemed to be pretty successful for the school. Not only are they expanding their class sizes and grades offered, but their spot is physically expanding as well! After getting a huge grant from the state, New Roots has done some serious renovations on their space at Clinton House. If you get a chance, head downtown and check out the space. They are actually hosting an open house on Thursday, Sept. 2! It’s not only for the students and their families, but for community members to get a chance to see all the work that has been done and get to chat with New Roots faculty. See you there!
