Ba-Rock Obama

%image_alt%Regardless of your political leanings, you’ll probably be hard-pressed to criticize President Barack Obama’s 2012 Campaign playlist. Obama’s list samples from a variety of genre styles, but relies heavily on soul, folk and rock to try to win him a second term.

Some notables include Arcade Fire’s “We Used to Wait,” Florence + The Machine’s “You’ve Got the Love” and “Tonight’s the Kind of Night” by Noah and the Whale. The main theme of the list focuses on uplifting spirits and determination.

Naturally, he included Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together.” If you missed his impromptu cover of it at The Apollo Theater a couple weeks ago, take a peek. I thought it was pretty good! He may have to put out a presidential covers album. I’d buy it.

Obama also proves that he’s keeping up with the music scene when he’s not dealing with more pressing matters. Included on the list is Bruce Springsteen’s new single “We Take Care of Our Own.” While I was a little put off by the song’s forced Americana at first (apparently The Boss can force Americana), I’ve come to truly enjoy the tune’s instrumentals.
