Song of the Day: Wanda Jackson

She’s back. Did you know she left? Did you know she was alive? Jack White continues his quest to become the young benefactor of all old country women. This time he’s found Wanda Jackson, a rockabilly singer who first made her debut in the ’50s singing hits like “Hard-Headed Woman” and the more racistly inclined “Fujiyama Mama.” But know she’s 76 and covering Amy Winehouse (she just keeps popping up all over the place). She’s electric, slinky, and dangerous. Is there a certain irony in this older woman singing about her affairs and sexual escapades. Man, I want to say yes. But Jackson pulls it off. Can’t wait for the album.

Another musical Jackson?
