Students and administration discuss impact of BIPOC Unity Center staff departures

Ithaca College held a processing session Nov. 30 for BIPOC students to ask questions and share their concerns with college administrators and staff members about the departure of Angélica Carrington, former director of the BIPOC Unity Center. 
Fall semester room buyouts will cost $330, and spring semester buyouts will cost $660. If a student purchases a buyout for both semesters the total would be $990. Requests will be reviewed on a weekly basis.

College hopes to reduce deficit from low enrollment through room buyouts

Ithaca College recently introduced room buyouts for students as one of the ways to reduce the college’s deficit for the 2024 fiscal year.
Because ITH is a smaller airport and is the only airport closest to Ithaca College and Cornell University, tickets usually tend to be limited and expensive and the entire airport industry has struggled to rebound its workflow after COVID-19.

Ithaca airport obtains grant to add air route to Washington D.C.

In September, Ithaca Tompkins International Airport received a $750,000 grant from the Department of Transportation’s Small Community Air Service Development Program to expand air routes to Washington D.C.

Q&A: Economics professor researches human rights during sabbatical

Elizabeth Kaletski, an associate professor in the Department of Economics at Ithaca College, was on sabbatical for Spring 2023. During her sabbatical, she worked on projects centered on children’s rights for the Human Rights Measurement Initiative, including analyzing data, writing academic papers and securing funding.
The Ithaca College Faculty Council heard from the co-chairs of the Middle States Reaccreditation committee and from the college’s director of energy management and sustainability at its Dec. 5 meeting. Melanie Stein, provost and senior vice president of academic affairs, also spoke about upcoming updates to the academic dishonesty policy, in addition to creating a comprehensive credit hour policy.

Faculty Council receives updates on energy management and sustainability

The Ithaca College Faculty Council heard from the co-chairs of the Middle States Reaccreditation committee and from the college’s director of energy management and sustainability at its Dec. 5 meeting. Updates were also given on a new faculty retirement plan option and a policy change about the length of advanced notice when the college separates from an employee.
Te-Wen Lo, associate professor in the Department of Biology, and John Fracchia, career engagement and technology specialist in the Center for Career Exploration and Development, are co-chairs of the Middle States Reaccreditation committee.

Self-study report first step in three-year institutional reaccreditation process

Starting in January 2024, Ithaca College will begin two years of self-study, the first step in the process of being reaccredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
Luca Maurer, the executive director for Student Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging in the Center for Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, met with the SGC to discuss the structure of the center and the efforts it is putting in to create a more welcoming campus.

Ithaca College to implement transfer pathways from community colleges

Ithaca College is partnering with interested community colleges in New York state to develop transfer pathways for students who want to study for two years at a community college and transfer to Ithaca College to complete a degree.
