Since Fall 2019 when Ithaca College first introduced the Ithaca Forever Strategic Plan, there has been considerable frustration and confusion throughout the campus community.

Faculty cuts in the Ithaca College Department of Psychology have left many students minoring in psychology struggling to register for Spring 2023 classes and meet the requirements needed to graduate. 
Ithaca College President Shirley M. Collado’s monthly base compensation increased by $1,039 to $41,174 per month during the 2019–20 fiscal year.

Ivy Walz served as the interim dean of the School of Music during the 2021–22 academic year. In 2020, Walz stepped into an administrative role as assistant dean after former dean Karl Paulnack stepped down at the end of the 2019–20 academic year. 

Ithaca College announces School of Music, Theatre and Dance

On July 1, the Ithaca College School of Music and the Department of Theatre Arts will merge to create the School of Music, Theatre and Dance.
Between 2010 and 2019, the percentage of alumni who donated dropped by about half. In 2010, the rate was 12.2% and in 2019, it was 6.4%. Wendy Kobler, vice president for Philanthropy and Engagement, said the percentage was stabilizing between 6.2% to 6.4%, but for the 2020 fiscal year, the rate was 6.2%. While the national average rate of alumni who donate back to their college is only 8%, Ithaca College still falls below the average. The last year the college had an alumni donation percentage above 8% was 2015.

The rate of Ithaca College alumni donating back to the college is stabilizing after years of decreases — but at a percentage lower than the national average.
The first phase of the APP included the elimination of 116 full-time equivalent (FTE) faculty and 26 majors, departments and programs. The second phase will focus on reorganizing and restructuring different academic areas, including moving the theater department into the School of Music. 

Students express concern over theater arts department move

Some members of the campus community have concerns about how the move of the Department of Theatre Arts to the School of Music will impact students.
Tim Downs, vice president of Finance and Administration and chief financial officer, said the college is a tuition-dependent institution and that room and board make about 90% of the net operating revenue. Tuition for the 2021–22 academic year is $46,610 on top of the $6,868 standard meal plan and a double room cost of $8,976.

IC community discusses budget cuts and tuition amid pandemic

The Ithaca College community is adjusting both to the residual effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the college’s budget and the strategic plan Ithaca Forever.
Juan Arroyo, assistant professor in the Department of Politics, said he is now facing an intense school year because of the APP. Arroyo said that when enrollment rates dropped last year, two sections were taken from his schedule, but now he “owes” the college six credits.
