Diane Gayeski: Pioneering emerging technology at her alma mater

Diane Gayeski ’74, professor in the Department of Strategic Communication at Ithaca College, has worked with clients like General Electric, Sony and Fiat through her consulting firm, Gayeski Analytics. Even as her firm grew, Gayeski chose to continue teaching at IC — and later, serve as the Dean of the Roy H. Park School of Communications.

Zenon Wasyliw, professor in the Department of History at Ithaca College, ends every class session by leading students in a cheer of “Budmo!”, a Ukrainian toast. The routine shows both his heritage and his commitment to engaging students in class. Since he started teaching at IC in 1989, Wasyliw has built connections with hundreds of students — many of whom still talk with him or follow his Instagram account.

After attending an R1 research institution where his classes had a minimum of 70 students, Hormoz Movassaghi, professor and chair of the Department of Finance and International Business at Ithaca College, wanted to teach at a college that allowed faculty to connect with their students.

Bob Sullivan, professor in the Department of Literatures in English at Ithaca College, believes that young people are much smarter and more engaged than common stereotypes suggest they are. In his 30 years of teaching at IC, Sullivan said he has emphasized building relationships with students and supporting and challenging them as they develop their thinking and views of the world. 
A retail study commissioned by the City of Ithaca and Downtown Ithaca Alliance identifies higher income customers and visitors as a key in strengthening commerce. Some are excited for growth, but others are nervous about its impact on income inequality.

Following a wave of store closures in Downtown Ithaca in late 2025 and early 2026, 10 new businesses have announced their openings on The Commons this spring. Recent store openings follow the implementation of a retail study that calls for attracting higher-income customers to the shopping district.

The Ithaca College School of Music, Theatre, and Dance announced revisions to private lesson times in an email sent to music students March 23, sparking frustration among students. The new system divides students across 30-minute, 45-minute and hour-long lessons depending on the major. The changes will take effect in Fall 2026. 
The Ithaca College Student Governance Council held platform presentations April 27 to allow the thirteen candidates running for positions for the Fall 2026 council to share their ideas and views with the college community ahead of the voting period.

The Ithaca College Student Governance Council held platform presentations April 27 to allow candidates running for positions for the Fall 2026 council to share their ideas and views with the college community ahead of the voting period. Candidates can campaign through April 30 and students can vote for candidates on IC Engage from 9 a.m. April 29 through 4:59 p.m. April 30.
