Bomb threat closes downtown building

The Tompkins County Human Services Building was shut down yesterday following an afternoon bomb threat.

The 320 W. State St. building was evacuated around 2 p.m. after a caller said a bomb would go off in the building at 3 p.m.

An hour-long search by the Ithaca Police Department yielded no explosive devices, and employees were permitted to re-enter the building at about 3:30 p.m. to collect personal items, according to a spokesperson from the police department.

The 250 employees of the building were released after police completed their search and operations were shut down for the remainder of the day.

The building resumed normal hours this morning. Police are still investigating the incident.
