Burglary reported in East Tower

The Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management is investigating a burglary reported on the eighth floor of East Tower residence hall between 9:15 p.m. last night and 2:20 a.m. Sept. 6th.

According to an email alert sent out at 6:48 a.m., a resident reported a $100 bill and a $25 Visa Gift Card taken from a dorm room. Another resident reported about $100 in cash taken from a “private area” within the same room.

According to the alert, there is currently no suspect information to report, however this occurrence followed a previous incident in which one resident reported a wallet containing about $80 in cash stolen from the same room Aug. 28, 2015. The previous incident was not reported to Public Safety at the time.

Both residents report that the room was occupied during the hours of the theft, and several “individuals/acquaintances” were in and out of the room during both incidents.

In light of the incident, Public Safety has hung signs up on all of the residence hall doors, urging anyone with information relating to the incident to contact their office and reminding members of the community to “store valuables in a secure area, always lock their offices, rooms and apartments and immediately report any suspicious activity to the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management.”
