Dean of Park School selected for UC Berkeley position

Dianne Lynch, dean of the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College, was selected by officials at the University of California at Berkeley on Friday as their choice for the new dean of their graduate school of journalism

Lynch will be recommended to Berkeleys board of regents at their July meeting, according to a member of Lynchs office. If Lynch is approved, she will begin at Berkeley Jan.1, according to an article in the San Francisco Chronicle.

One of five finalists for the position, Lynch interviewed at the school March 5 but withdrew her application later that month. In early May, Lynch and Berkeley Provost George Breslauer resumed discussions about the position.

The provost at Berkeley called me [in early May] to ask why I had withdrawn from the search; I gave him my reasons, Lynch said in an email interview May 11. He asked whether I would be willing to reconsider if he could address all of the issues I raised. I said I would be willing to discuss it.

Lynch could not be reached for further comment after the announcement of her selection. She has served as dean of the Park School since 2004.
