Thunderstorm causes leaks in A&E Center

There have been two reported water leaks in the ceiling of the Athletics and Events Center from the thunderstorm Thursday afternoon.

According to Rick Couture, associate vice president for the office of facilities, the leaks were noticed above the track area and in the tower.

Couture said it is not unusual to have leaks in one or two small areas in the Center, especially after such a heavy thunderstorm. However, Couture also said the leaks in the $65.5 million building could also have resulted from glitches in the building’s structure.

“Some areas of the roof may not have been finished off the way they should have been finished off,” he said. “But that’s not uncommon on a roof that is as massive as the Athletic and Events Center.”
